Assiut & New Valley Water and Wastewater Company

Assiut & New Valley Water and Wastewater Company is the affiliate of Egypt's Holding Company for Water and Wastewater that operates drinking-water and sanitation services in Assiut Governorate and the vast New Valley Governorate, which covers the Western Desert oases of Kharga, Dakhla, Farafra, and Baris. Groundwater in these oases is naturally rich in dissolved iron and manganese and must be treated before distribution.

In 2001 Metal Home for Industry supplied and installed carbon-steel water-filter tanks and oxidation towers for the iron and manganese removal process at the Mut water treatment plant in Dakhla. The oxidation towers aerate the well water so dissolved metals precipitate, and the pressurized sand filters downstream capture the oxides before the water enters the network. All vessels were epoxy-lined and pressure-tested in our factory before shipment to the oasis.

The Mut plant is a typical example of the compact groundwater treatment trains needed across Egypt's desert communities, and it remains one of our longest-running installations. The experience gained there underpins the filter and tower packages we have since supplied to other water companies and to the New Valley development programme.
